OVER 10, 000 customers across the country that had their houses disconnected before the outbreak of the Corona Virus Disease (COVID -19) have been reconnected, Government has said.
Water Development, Sanitation and Environmental Protection Permanent Secretary, Mabvuto Sakala today said the reconnection, which was done at no fee, is part of the measures being put in place to accelerate prevention and the spread of COVID -19.
Mr. Sakala says clean and safe water is critical in the fight against COVID -19 as outlined by the guidelines by the Ministry of Health.
“Now, clients must continue paying their water bills to avoid accumulation of debt.
“Government, working in partnership with cooperating partners and Civil Society Organizations (CSOS), is ensuring that clean and safe water as well as sanitation services are provided,” Mr. Sakala said.
He says 72 per cent of the population has access to water while 54 per cent has access to adequate sanitation services.
