THE Government of Japan has conferred a high honour on Joseph Mulenga for his contribution to promoting friendly relations between Japan and the Republic of Zambia.
Dr. Mulenga, who is the director at the Zambia National Blood Transfusion, has been the president of the Zambia JICA Fellowship Association (ZAJIFA) which has been instrumental in lobbying for support to the health sector in Zambia.
Dr. Mulenga is among 117 foreign nationals who have been conferred with 2020 Spring decorations of the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays.
The Order of the Rising Sun is bestowed upon individuals of merit, in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the nation or public.
First secretary at the Embassy of Zambia in Tokyo, Japan, Yotam Mugara, yesterday told The Scoop in a statement that the honour is conferred upon foreign nationals who have made notable contributions to the promotion of relations between Japan and other countries.
Mr. Mugara says this recognition covers areas such as politics and diplomacy, research and education, medicine and social welfare, economy and industry, and culture and sports.
“The ceremony awaits clearance following the outbreak of Novel Corona Virus (Covid19). The conferment of decorations on foreign nationals has also been published on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website,” Mr. Mugara said.
