By Scoop Reporter

PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu says Government is effectively implementing the Seventh National Development Plan (7NDP) to ensure food security at both household and national levels.

Posting on his Facebook wall today, President Lungu said deliberate measures such as supplementary and school feeding enhancement programmes were all aimed at making sure Zambia was food secure.

“Countrymen and women, my Government has continued to intensify food security and nutrition at both household and national levels through effective implementation of 7NDP strategic programmes.

“Programmes such as supplementary and school feeding enhancement programme; micro-nutrients fortification and supplementation programme; nutritious foods and household food security promotion programme; food and nutrition legislation reforms programme, including our successful reform of the FRA away from commodity marketing to focus on strategic food reserve purchases; to mention but a few,” President Lungu said.

He says Zambia’s national food balance sheet clearly shows that the country is totally food secure due to the 2020 bumper harvest.
