LUNGU MOURNS LATE MEDICAL PERSONNEL

PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has mourned Ian Mutambo, the biomedical technologist from Zambezi in North-Western Province who died in an accident involving a Power Tools bus in Kabompo yesterday.

Mr. Mutambo was on his way to Lusaka to deliver samples for Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) testing when he met his fate.

Speaking in Lusaka this morning during an update for COVID-19 situation, Health Minister Chitalu Chilufya said President Lungu is saddened by the death of Mr. Mutambo whom he described as a frontline gallant soldier.

“The Republican President is this morning saddened that we lost a dedicated health worker, a 24-year old biomedical technologist who traveled duty-bound on the Power Tools bus from Solwezi which plunged in Kabompo River.

“It is indeed a sad moment for all of us and on behalf of the President, Government, the people of Zambia, and the medical fraternity, allow me to express our heartfelt condolences and commiserations to the family and friends of our beloved colleague, Ian Chali Mutambo,” Dr. Chilufya said.

Mr. Mutambo is among the four people who died in an accident which has also left 15 others with serious injuries.
