PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu must be commended for his boldness towards the fight against the Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) within the Zambian context by adapting to the “new normal” and support presidential directives, the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) has said.
Lusaka Province PF secretary Kennedy Kamba has told The Scoop that President Lungu has been magnanimous and realistic when dealing with this global pandemic going by trends, patterns of infection, and other challenges the country has faced since recording the first case.
Mr. Kamba says through technocrats in science and frontline health workers, Zambia has its own battle and that the country has put up a relentless fight.
In his address to the nation, President Lungu announced a number of adjustments in measures aimed at ensuring that at least life continues while battling this deadly virus that has brought havoc on mankind.
“We have all agreed that this is a very difficult situation not only for Zambia, but the entire world which is wrestling with the evils of COVID-19 to protect mankind while trying to find ways of how life will continue.
“Here in Zambia, our biggest fear is that if we continue on this trajectory without commerce and without critical businesses running, the impact of the COVID-19 will plunge the economy in a way never seen before as President Lungu stated,” Mr. Kamba said.
He says it is therefore important that citizens support President Lungu and his Government so that we can combat the pandemic together as a people while find ways of survival.
He says Zambians must must be inspired that the leadership of President Lungu is always thinking about how an ordinary Zambian, poor woman who runs the smallest of businesses will survive, given the circumstances.
“It is important, therefore, that we embrace the ‘new normal’. We must begin to psych our minds that we must rise above Covid-19 and the only way to do that is through strict adherence to new habits of always moving with a face mask, washing your hands, observing social distance and avoiding unnecessary movements.
“The boldness of President Lungu in facing the realities of this ‘new life’ must be commended and supported. We have no option as a nation but to survive and we must all unite through strict adherence to already put up measure by the health experts,” he said.
He says life must somehow continue as guided on how to proceed as a nation, just like many other big economies around the world are trying to find ways of economic survival while protecting citizens from Covid-19.
“All well-meaning Zambians are expected to join President Lungu and the Government through moral support, prayer and adaptation to the ‘new normal’,” he said.
