AFRICA SHOULD CELEBRATE ITS SUCCESSES, SAYS EMMANUEL MWAMBA

By Scoop Reporter

AFRICA should not be bound by the history of the past of slavery and colonialism but celebrate the successes that it has continued to score, Zambia’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Emmanuel Mwamba has said.

According to a statement by first secretary for press and tourism at the Zambian Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Inutu Mupango Mwanza, Mr. Mwamba says despite the celebration of Africa Freedom day coming amid the novel coronavirus, it is important for Africa to celebrate the liberation of the continent that was obtained at great human and material cost.

He says the theme of the commemoration ’’ Silencing the Guns :Creating Conducive Conditions for Development in Africa ‘’,  is timely to accelerate Africa’s economic and social development.

“He said African Union’s flagship programmes such as the AfCFTA, the integrated high speed train and free movement of people projects among others could not be achieved in the absence of peace on the continent.  He said he was particularly pleased that Zambia continued to be a shining example of peace and unity on the continent.

“He further said that it was pleasing to note that the roadmap on the flagship programme of silencing the guns in Africa was first adopted in Lusaka Zambia, an indication of the recognition of the peace and the country’s historical role the country played in the liberation of Africa,” Ms. Mwanza said.

Mr. Mwamba says the COVID-19 pandemic presents a threat to Africa’s development and must be fought aggressively and that Africa must overcome the pandemic to restore its path of economic development.
