YOUNG people must rise up, be innovative, and productive to create a livelihood for themselves amid the Corona Virus pandemic, New Congress Party (NCP) president Peter Chanda has said.
Speaking at Millennium’s Radio program dubbed talk at six, Mr. Chanda says he is alive to the fact that the COVID-19 disease is a global crisis, a battle of our generation and as such, the youths must realise that it is innovation that will put food on their table and a recipe to develop our mother Zambia.
He says the country must learn from the first Republican President Kenneth Kaunda’s revolutionary freedom fighting youthful generation that rose to the occasion of their time, united against political and tribal background to fight a common cause and that was to bring independence.
“If we can unite, we can fight and win this Corona Virus Disease which has ravaged the whole world. We have all the raw materials that we need to sustain our economy.
“It is high time that youths desist from politicking on the COVID-19 but must poses patriotism, productivity and hard work to bring about economic development,” Mr. Chanda said.
He says Zambia is a land-linked country and this must act as a competitive advantage for agriculture, innovation, manufacturing and importing products and that Zambia must not be content with being a consuming nation but must be a producing one.
He points to the fact that the northern part of Zambia has a good rainfall climate pattern and the country has the largest water bodies in Southern Africa, agriculture must be embraced as a tool for employment, food security, and development.
