RESIDENCE PERMIT REPLACEMENTS EXTENDED

By Scoop Reporter

THE Department of Immigration has extended the deadline for replacement of the booklet type of Residence Permits with the Digital Card Permits from May 31, 2020 to July 31, 2020.

Public Relations Officer Namati H. Nshinka yesterday said this is to accord holders of Residence Permits ample time to submit their applications for replacement, which is a mandatory requirement.

Mr. Nshinka says the deadline does not apply to the collection of the Digital Card Permits, but rather the successful submission of applications, including payment.

“As part of the implementation of the upgraded Zambia Immigration Management System (ZIMS), which was officially launched on 12th April, 2019, and in accordance with Statutory Instrument (SI) No. 9 of 2019, the Department introduced a convenient digital card permit, which replaced the booklet-type of permit previously issued.

“We therefore advise those who have applied for replacement of Residence Permits, including those whose applications have been approved, not to be in a rush to collect the Cards, as this will only cause congestion at our premises, which is not ideal in our fight against COVID-19,” Mr. Nshinka said.

He has urged those who are yet to apply, to do so online, saying the process is very easy and convenient, thus helping de-congest our Customer Service Centre.

“However, applicants whose passports have either expired or have a validity of less than 6 months will not be able to proceed with their online applications and must visit Immigration Headquarters for further guidance.

“All holders of residence permits must apply before the new deadline, without fail,” he said.
