RULING Patriotic Front (PF) in Southern Province has congratulated Government over a bumper harvest saying this is as a result of sound policies being implemented.
PF Provincial chairperson Lawrence Evans says the PF Government’s policies in the agriculture sector have continued to yield positive results for the country.
Mr. Evans says this is ensuring food security both at household and national levels as evidenced in the maize bumper harvest recorded in the 2019/2020 farming season.
He says it is policies like the Farmer Input Support Program (FISP) to small scale farmers among others that have helped the country record the more than 3.3 million metric tons of maize, which is close to 70 percent increase from the previous farming season harvest.
“We congratulate President, Edgar Lungu and his Government for the record bumper harvest because he has remained steadfast and consistent in pushing the sector to greater heights by walking the talk, despite sustained criticism from the opposition UPND regarding the performance in the agriculture sector.
“President Lungu is driving an agenda to make agriculture the main force in the economic diversification and he has taken practical steps at personal level by venturing in to fish farming which he is urging every Zambian to venture into or grow vegetables even at the smallest level through a backyard garden,” Mr. Evans said.
He has also applauded the hard working farmers for this achievement saying without them, it could not have been possible.
