KAFUE INDUSTRIAL PARK WORKS IMPRESSIVE – CHRISTOPHER KANG’OMBE

By Scoop Reporter

I AM impressed with the progress of works being done at the Kafue Industrial Park by the Citizen Economic Empowerment Commission (CEEC), Kitwe Mayor Christopher Kang’ombe has said.

According to a statement made available to The Scoop this morning by Kitwe City Council Public Relations Officer Fridah Leyamina, Mr. Kang’ombe yesterday inspected the site and expressed gratitude to the Government for considering Kitwe as one of areas for the establishment of Industrial Parks.

“The project is very important to us not only in responding to the Governments drive to industrialize as one of the four pillars in which development takes place but also to create jobs.

“There will be no need for our people to go across the stream to look for jobs because jobs will be right at their door steps,” Mr. Kang’ombe said.

He has made an appeal to the contractor to complete the works on schedule and further called on other partners to utilize the remaining 75 hectares from the 100 hectares that was reserved in phase 1 as only 25 hectares has been utilized so far.

And Mango Tree Construction company site engineer, Yang Jiapin says the construction commenced last year and works were expected to finish early this year.

Mr. Jiapin says the company was unable to complete the works on schedule due to the Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) which caused shortage of man power as 70 percent of the workers have travel restrictions following the outbreak of the Covid-19 late December 2019.

He has however assured the Mayor that by December this year, the project will be completed looking at the pace at which the remaining 30 percent of manpower is moving.
