CLIFFORD Choongo, the suspect who shot dead his ex-girlfriend on Sunday night last week before aiming for two others who survived with gunshot wounds, has been discharged from the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) where he was admitted after an instant justice mob descended on him following his shooting spree.
On Monday, police arrested Mr. Choongo for shooting three people on Sunday around 20:00, among them, his ex-girlfriend who later died.
Mr. Choongo is said to have shot the trio at his ex-girlfriend’s place in Shalom area of Lusaka’s Kanyama compound
Mr. Choongo allegedly shot his ex-girlfriend, Barbara Sinonge, aged 23 in the head using a pistol. He also allegedly shot at his ex-girlfriend’s alleged intimate partner, Mwiinga Kalozye, aged 29 of Kanono area in Kanyama compound who sustained a gunshot wound in the chest.
Mr. Choongo is also alleged to have shot at Andrew Phiri aged 22 of Shalom area in Kanyama in the neck as he was trying to rescue the victims.
But an instant justice mob descended on Mr. Choongo, beating him to pulp before he was rescued by police who took him to the hospital.
The firearm used in the act was retrieved with some empty cartridges and one projectile picked at the scene.
In a statement obtained by The Scoop this afternoon, police acting spokesperson Danny Mwale said Mr. Choongo, who is yet to be formally arrested and charged, was discharged today at 11:00 hours and is currently in police custody.
