By Scoop Reporter

FIVE people of the same family have died after the boat they were in capsized and sunk in the Kafue River.

Police acting spokesperson Danny Mwale says the five died on Thursday when the boat they were travelling in capsized and sunk in Chitili stream, a tributary of Kafue River.

Mr. Mwale identified the deceased as Mercy Mulako 36, Sarah Ngulale 12, Mildred Ngulale 7, Maureen Ngulale 2, and Hope Ngulale 8 months all of Mwanabene fishing camp in Namwala District.

“The incident occurred on June 18, 2020 around 12 hours when the occupants were travelling from Shakapepe Fishing Camp to Mwanabene Fishing Camp when a strong wave hit the boat causing the engine to be disconnected.

“All the five bodies have since been retrieved from the stream and deposited in Namwala District Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem and burial,” Mr. Mwale said.
