WE’RE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR PROTESTS, SAYS UPND

By Scoop Reporter

The United Party for National Development (UPND) has clarified that the protest which took place today was not the creation of the party.

UPND Lusaka District vice chairperson for politics, Anderson Banda, says the demonstration itself is good because it represents the voice of the youths who are down trodden by the government.

Mr. Banda has expressed surprise that the police closed the entrance and exist at the UPND Secretariat as though the protest was the brain child of the UPND.

He says the act by the police does not represent the kind of police the country needs, wondering why when needed, they are nowhere to be seen and that lives have been lost as a result of the police negligence.

“UPND did not organise today’s protest and surprisingly the police surrounded the UPND Secretariat. There was no criminal activity which was done at the Secretariat and police must withdraw themselves” Banda said.

He has advised the youths not to be cowed when it comes to protecting their rights because doing so will encourage the police to infringing on their rights.

Meanwhile, Mr. Banda has advised the police to instead arrest Lusaka Province Patriotic Front (PF) chairperson, Paul Moonga, for proposing violence.

“Police must arrest Paul Moonga for inciting violence which is an offense. He has no mandate. He is just a PF member not the police” he demanded
