A CHIPATA-based business man has been arrested for operating a pharmacy without a Certificate of Registration contrary to section 14(1) of the Medicines and Allied Substances Act No. 3 of 2013.
Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA) Senior Public Relations Officer Christabel Mutale Iliamupu says this is in addition to being in possession of Government medicines suspected to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained contrary to section 319 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
Ms. Iliamupu named the suspect as George Banda, male aged 34 years, who is a teacher by profession and says he has arrested and detained at Chipata Central Police pending processing of court documents required for prosecution.
“The incident happened following a routine inspection undertaken by Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA) inspectors, in collaboration with the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC), in Dyakanani Market located in Muchini Compound of Chipata, Eastern Province.
“The authority wishes to issue a stern warning to all those engaging in such vices to refrain from doing so or risk being prosecuted,” Ms. Iliamupu warned.
