MILLERS must take advantage of the bumper harvest recorded to buy all the maize they need for their operations between now and the next harvest, Agriculture Minister Michael Katambo has said.
Speaking when he flagged off the crop marketing season at Food Reserve Agency (FRA) Mwembeshi satellite depot in Lusaka on Wednesday, Mr. Katambo said he will be shocked if any miller will claim that they have run out of maize.
Mr. Katambo has advised all millers to take advantage of the bumper harvest recorded in the 2019/2020 farming season and buy enough stock.
He says it would be difficult to believe that any miller will have run out of maize stocks between now and the next harvest when there is plenty of maize on the market.
“Allow me to take this opportunity to urge all milling companies to follow the example set by the Food Reserve Agency. They should take advantage of the bumper harvest and I urge them to ensure that they buy all the grain to meet their requirements all the way up to the next harvest.
“With the bumper harvest and all stocks of maize that are available on the market, it will be difficult to believe that any miller has run out of maize,” Mr. Katambo said.
