JOB LOSSES LOOM AS SPAR WINDS UP

By Scoop Reporter

HUNDREDS of Zambian employees and suppliers which have been dealing with Spar Zambia are in limbo as the chain store is winding up a number of outlets in Zambia.

According to a letter to one of the suppliers which was signed by Spar chief financial officer, Peter Phiri and obtained by The Scoop this afternoon, Spar outlets at Arcades, Crossroads, Downtown, Foxdale, Northrise, Mumbwa Road, and Twin Palm are all closing.

Mr. Phiri has therefore appealed to suppliers to provide final statements by Tuesday, July 21, 2020 for all outstanding invoices for them to be paid their money and that only those that will do so within the stated period will be paid.

“Dear esteemed supplier, we thank you for all the support rendered to Spar Zambia over the years. We are winding up operations of our corporate stores (Arcades, Crossroads, Downtown, Foxdale, Northrise, Mumbwa Road and Twin Palm) and thus, we wish to request for final statements for all outstanding invoices to enable us reconcile our accounts with yours.

“The deadline for submission of statements is Tuesday, July 21, 2020. Kindly ensure that accurate statements are submitted by the stated date in order for us to expedite the process of making payments. Kindly note that payments will be on reconcilable balances and only suppliers who submit their statements on or before the stated date will receive full payments,” reads the letter in part.
