STANDARD Chartered Bank Zambia’s new Head Office building is taking shape with the structure now over 90 percent complete.
Company head of corporate affairs, brand and marketing Christine Matambo says despite the 3-month break at the construction site due to the COVID-19 pandemic and adherence to social distancing measures, the bank’s US$40m building is on track to be completed by the last quarter of the year.
Ms. Matambo says Standard Chartered Bank’s new head office building, which has EDGE Green Building Certification, will boast a new retail banking branch, and have ample parking space for both staff, clients and visitors.
She says the new investment of US$40m has seen local business engagement in the construction, which has contributed to local job creation.
She says the investment also demonstrates that Standard Chartered remains firmly committed to Zambia’s economy, clients, communities, and to being “here for good.”
And speaking during a tour of the building yesterday, Standard Chartered Bank Zambia Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Herman Kasekende, said in the last few months, the bank had slowed down works at the construction site due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Despite this, Standard Chartered Bank’s brand-new US$40m Head Office building is taking very good shape. We are delighted that we are scheduled to make the big move to this iconic building shortly.”
“This new Head Office not only adds to the beauty of Lusaka’s skyline, but is a key demonstration that Standard Chartered Bank remains firmly committed to Zambia, to our clients and to our communities. That is why we are very excited that it is taking such great shape,” Mr. Kasekende said.
