UPND WOMEN DEFEND MWEETWA OVER VEEP BARRAGE

By Scoop Reporter

THE Patriotic Front (PF) must stop abusing women in an effort to please their political masters, the United Party for National Development (UPND) in Southern Province has charged.

Commenting on the number of women groups condemning Choma Central Member of Parliament Cornelius Mweetwa for rebuking vice president Inonge Wina over her remarks that those involved in gassing which rocked the country recently were instigators of regime change, the party says the PF should stop abusing women.

Southern Province UPND chairperson Annie Mangunje says Mr. Mweetwa is not only talking on behalf of Choma Central Constituency but for all Zambian citizens who were affected by gassing and that as women in the province, they are behind him for demanding answers on who were behind the gassing.

“We also urge veep Inonge Wina to stop telling lies. She is an embarrassment to us women in leadership. As a woman, she should be honest in her statements. The Speaker of National Assembly’s behavior is treacherous and security risk to our parliament.

“He is killing freedom of speech in parliament and outside the House. There was no need to demand an apology from Hon Mweetwa for describing   Inonge Wina’s statement as “shameful and shallow”. The decent thing for him was to warn Inonge Wina for lying.

“Misleading the public on a serious issue like gassing where lives were lost is a serious issue of which the Speaker of the National Assembly should have not ignored. We don’t expect a normal person to denounce Mr. Mweetwa for refusing to apology. It is Inonge Wina who should not only apologise, but resign from her position for lying as vice president,” Ms. Mangunje said.
