POLICE OFFICER NABBED, PF CADRE AT LARGE

By Scoop Reporter

POLICE have arrested, for desertion, police Sergeant Jayson Chipepo, the officer who took social media by storm last week to announce his resignation from the service for lack of professionalism and infiltration by Patriotic Front (PF) cadres.

Desertion by law is an offence committed by police officers who abscond from duty for a stipulated period of time according to Section 26 (d) of the Zambia Police Act cap 107.

Mr. Chipepo, who is reported to have last reported on duty on February 2, 2020, took the social media by storm last week when he announced his resignation through Facebook and has since been on the run till today when he handed himself to the police in Kapiri Mposhi.

Asked on unverified reports suggesting that Mr. Chipepo has been arrested, police spokesperson Esther Katongo confirmed the development and that arrangements were being made to repatriate him back to Muchinga where he was wanted.

“Yes he is in police custody in Kapiri Mposhi and arrangements are being made to transport him to Muchinga Province where he is wanted,” Ms. Katongo said.

Meanwhile, Ms. Katongo says PF Eastern Province youth chairperson Emmanuel J Banda, commonly known as Jay Jay, who is facing aggravated robbery charges, is still on the run.

“(He is) Still at large,” she said.
