THE Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) says women league remains suspended until the review of the prevailing health situation by the authorities gives the go-ahead.

In a statement released by Communications manager Sydney Mungala, FAZ says it has been inundated by queries over the resumption of the league following the return of the National Division One and Super League to action on July 18, 2020.

Mungala says the lower division leagues (provincial) and women leagues remain suspended until the authorities give the all clear.

And FAZ General Secretary Adrian Kashala says resumption of footballing activities in the country will be done in a phased manner.

Kashala says FAZ continues to liaise with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Sport who are the supervisory body to ensure that the resumption of the league remains within the confines of the guidelines.

“As we guided earlier, the resumption of football in the country will be done in phases and in accordance with the guidance from the Ministry of Health.

“We continue to monitor the situation on the ground and will advise our members in due course on the possibility of spreading the resumption of the league beyond the National Division One and Super League,” Kashala said.

He has appealed to the clubs currently participating the resumed league to step up adherence levels.

“We urge our members to step up with adherence to health guidelines as we have seen a notable spike in the numbers in the country. We will heavily rely on the advice from the health authorities for every decision we take,” he said.

FAZ has active women leagues in Lusaka, Central, Copperbelt and North Western provinces. Southern and Northern provinces have recently made steps towards setting up fully functional women leagues with Eastern Province also having some active women clubs.

The Zambian league was re-opened on July 18, 2020 with clubs now entering into the second weekend of matches. So far five.
