ZAMBIA’S COVID-19 CASES SURGE TO 4328

By Scoop Reporter

HEALTH Minister Chitalu Chilufya says Zambia has in the last 24 hours recorded 472 new cases of COVID-19 out of the 1851 tests done and has recorded three deaths, all of them, Brought-In-Dead (BID).

Dr. Chilufya says this is the highest number Zambia has recorded in a day and that this is a call to action for all Zambians to change the direction in the way they do things.

“The 472 new cases bring the cumulative number of cases that we have recorded in Zambia to 4328.additionally, we have recorded three more Brought-In-Dead (BID) cases. That brings the total number of deaths associated to COVID-19 to 139. We had no facility deaths,” Dr. Chilufya said.

He says President Edgar Lungu has expressed concern at the compliance in application of the public measures with a noted concern that in markets, public, and work places, people hardly mast up and hardly observe social distancing, while funerals are going on as business-as-usual.

He says there is need to abandon the business-as-usual attitude towards COVID-19 and that in the coming week, the Ministry of  health and other stakeholders will be conducting special community operations that will be looking at community screening and community sensitization in particular places.

He says the operations will be similar to those done in Kafue and Nakonde.
