POWER ‘BLOCKS’ CROWNING OF FAZ/MTN CHAMPIONS

By Scoop Reporter

POWER Dynamos football club has suggested that there must be no team crowned as FAZ/MTN league champions this season following the abrupt end of the league with a number of unplayed matches.

The league this afternoon closes abruptly after restart a fortnight ago due to the ravaging COVID-19 with champions set to be handed the trophy but Power Dynamos says it does not make sense for any team to be crowned champions with the current status quo.

In a letter to the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) by club Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Happy Munkondya, Power however suggests that the top four teams must be allowed to play continental football.

However, Power contends that there must be neither the crowning of the champion nor demotion of teams in the relegation zone this season as it will not be fair to some clubs to be relegated after playing 27 games in a league that goes up to 34 games.

It has also urged FAZ to disburse sponsorship funds to clubs equally to mitigate clubs’ financial challenges experienced by the changed and constrained business strategies.

It has also called for an urgent constitution of a Premier League Interim Board to attend to such important matters to have a participatory decision making process on critical matters.

“With this approach, clubs will have nobody to blame for their inadvertent misfortunes and clubs’ sponsors will stand ready to support clubs in future with a positive conscience.

“We must not set a precedent which shall be difficult to apply in future when faced with similar challenges. We hereby submit for your consideration,” reads the letter in part.

Forest Rangers host Napsa Stars at Arthur Davies Stadium in what is deemed the fight of the titans as the game is seen as a title decider.
