Political leaders should desist from needlessly engaging into unnecessary populist gatherings in the interim to avoid exposing our people to the possibilities of contracting the deadly COVID-19, All People’s Congress (APC) president Nason Msoni has said.
Mr. Msoni says the emerging national portrait of the coronavirus infections calls for greater responsibility on the part of all our political leaders in the country.
He says as a country, Zambia still has the small window of opportunity to escape and keep the pandemic under containment, if all are our political leaders accept to co-operate and act more responsibly.
“We think that political expediency should not override the need to observe the strict guidelines as provided for by the Ministry of health, in our desperate political pursuits of our respective individual ambitions.
“Any political ambition that fails to take into account the safety of our people is without doubt miserably doomed to fail. The question of compliance should not be one based on partisan basis or political considerations as the pandemic affects everyone coming into contact with the infected regardless of their political affiliation,” Mr. Msoni said.
