DISASTER Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) national coordinator Chanda Kabwe is an excited zealot who is dragging the Unit into political activities, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has charged.
Lusaka Province NDC chairperson Kennedy Siyanda says the DMMU is a noble organization which was created to provide relief food, tents and other vital logistics to victims in the event of disasters such as earthquakes, floods, and droughts, among others.
Mr. Siyanda however says his party is concerned that since the appointment of Mr. Kabwe as national coordinator, by-elections are now considered a tragedy.
“Under Kabwe, the DMMU has been providing logistics to potential voters to entice them to vote for the PF. We saw the DMMU provide logistics to voters in Northwestern and Western Provinces and now the same is being done in Lukashya and Mwansabombwe where there will be parliamentary by-elections on September 17.
“We would like to remind Kabwe that as permanent secretary, he is governed by General Orders and not the PF manifesto. Therefore, we would like to caution this excited zealot to learn from previous officials about the consequences of abusing public office,” Mr. Siyanda said.
He says while President Edgar Lungu enjoys immunity which can only be removed by voting in Parliament, Mr. Kabwe will one day be picked by police and thereafter, be subjected to court processes and be jailed.
“Kabwe, we have warned you! Keep away from these by-elections and let PF Secretary General Davies Mwila find resources to campaign with in Mwansabombwe and Lukashya,” he said.
