THE Mika Convention Centre in Lusaka will today be a hive of activities as former Finance Minister Felix Mutati will be launching his newly-registered party, the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC).
According to the programme released by the party media team yesterday, the event will start at 10:00 with those from the media expected to be seated by 09:30 for registration modalities before the leaders grace the occasion.
Mr. Mutati is expected to lead a legion of former Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD) leaders under his brief stint at the helm before the court ruled otherwise, expected to form the nucleus of the “blue” party whose T. shirts have already caused a social media frenzy.
All former MMD structures, which he had put across the country before he lost the presidency to Nevers Mumba, are reportedly pledging allegiance to the new party with some of them spotted in Lusaka ahead of this momentous event in the birth of the new political party.
Among many issues, Mr. Mutati is expected to imbue on his new battalion of disciples, the need to be violence-free, preach about unity, coexistence, and the need to practice issue-based politics devoid of malice.
He is expected to urge his members to bring a new lease of life on the political arena as Zambians are already stressed and fatigued with the current situation where some political parties are daily on each other’s throats as they gear up to the 2021 elections.
