POLICE in Mazabuka District of Southern Province have arrested a 26-year old man for obtaining money by false pretenses by parading himself as a recruiter in the Zambia Airforce (ZAF).
The complainant, Gift Muchindu, 25, of Kangila Farm, Chief Hanjalika of Chikankata District, alleged that his money amounting to K4, 000 was falsely obtained by Pukeni Muzembo of Airport area in Livingstone who purported to have been recruiting Zambia Airforce officers.
Police spokesperson Esther Katongo says the suspect is further alleged to have collected money from 10 other people in same area and that so far two people have reported the matter to police from which he collected K4, 000 and K1, 500 respectively.
Ms. Katongo says the incident is alleged to have occurred on October 10, 2020 at Kangila farm in Chikankata district.
“The suspect was apprehended today, October 18, 2020 at about 11:48 hours at a local lodge in Mazabuka District where he had booked a room. He is currently detained in police custody. A docket of obtaining money by false pretenses has been opened. We call on all people that could have been swindled by the suspect to report to police,” Ms. Katongo said.
She has cautioned members of the public to desist from trusting people demanding for money from them on pretext that they will help them secure employment in the public service as they risk being swindled by fraudsters.
