TONGA PROMISES REPEAL OF SOCIAL SECURITY LAWS

WE will repeal all relevant pieces of social security scheme legislations with an intention to enact new laws through consultation with all the stakeholders to develop a good culture of helping the aged, weak, and helpless in society within the ambit of social cohesion, Enock Tonga has said.

In his message to the electorates ahead of the August elections, Mr. Tonga, who is 3RD Liberation Movement (3RD-LM) president, said he will take up a number of steps in order to realize the dream of his party of establishing a meaningful social security scheme once voted into power

He said by law, all on pension payments made later than three months will attract interest to compel Government pay within the stipulated time.

“In its quest to establish a caring and listening Government, and passionate society in the Republic of Zambia whose people are best known for being friendly and welcoming, 3RD Liberation Movement (3RD-LM), notes with concern that there is urgent need to develop a good culture of helping the aged, weak, and helpless in society within the ambit of social cohesion.

“Zambia must educate her own younger generations about caring for one another and that Governments’ social security schemes must be made to be more meaningful and relevant to the society. We will take up a number of steps in order to realize the dream of his party of establishing a meaningful social security scheme once voted into power,” Mr. Tonga said.

“We repeal all relevant pieces of social security scheme legislations with an intention to enact new laws through consultation with all the stakeholders. Under local administration, all retirees will be able to access their benefits in their localities even at the districts level and by law, all retirees will access their retirement packages within the space of three months following their retirement.

“Post-employment life of all retired workers will be secured by law. Pensions Fund, under my administration will be invested in long-term investments through promoted and well-established Development banks so as to grow the funds,” he said.

Mr. Tonga claimed that within six months in Government, his administration will pay off all the pension arrears.
