THE Media Liaison Committee (MLC) has paid glowing tribute to media guru Gerald Mwale, who passed away at Lusaka’s Levy Mwanawasa Teaching Hospital yesterday.
MLC Chairperson Enock Ngoma says the organization joins the nation and particularly the media fraternity in mourning Mr. Mwale whom he described as one of Zambia’s outstanding journalists,
Mr. Ngoma says the MLC remembers and cherishes Mr Mwale’s total commitment towards the establishment of the Zambia Media Council (ZAMEC) and his unwavering need to always fight for a free media in Zambia.
He recounts that Mr. Mwale was always available when called upon to work with the MLC, not only on the process to come up with ZAMEC, but also on various issues affecting the media. His commitment to the promotion of a free press cannot be doubted and compared.
“During his many years at the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC), a public media house where he rose to the position of News Editor, Mr Mwale exhibited professional ethics at all times in ensuring that coverage of news was fair and factual.
“In recent years, a good number of upcoming journalists have gone through the tutelage of Mr Mwale at the University of Zambia where he was a senior lecturer. The MLC therefore joins Mr Mwale’s family in mourning the gallant journalist who still had a lot to offer to improve the media landscape in Zambia. He has left a gap which can certainly not be ignored by the media,”Mr. Mwale said
“The MLC sends heartfelt condolences to friends and family of Mr Mwale and prays that the Almighty God consoles and comforts them during this trying period of losing a beloved one. May His Soul Rest in Eternal Peace,”he said.
