BETUZ WANTS TEACHER NVOLVEMENT IN EDUCATION REFORMS

By Flavior Kanungo

BASIC Education Teachers Union of Zambia (BETUZ) Public and International Relations Director Kabika Kakunta has charged that any form of transformation in the education sector which does not put a teacher at the centre is in futility.

Mr. Kakunta said the union is aware that most reforms in the past have been done without the involvement of teachers and that such have not worked well for the education system because key players were left out.

He has since suggested that going forward, teachers must be at the centre of education reforms if the country is to achieve proper transformation in the provision of quality education.

He was speaking yesterday ahead of the World Teachers Day commemorations today, October 5, 2022 under the theme “transformation of education begins with a teacher.”

President Hakainde Hichilema is expected to officiate at the commemorations in Lusaka.
