ANYONE who will commit a crime with an excuse of exercising his rights will be arrested as the rights enshrined in the constitution are not an excuse to commit a crime, says Inspector General of Police Lemmy Kajoba.
Mr Kajoba stated that the general public must understand that the rights enshrined in the Constitution are not absolute and should not be misconstrued to be an excuse to commit a crime.
He said police Sunday at around 20:30 hours apprehended and detained Economic and Equity Party (EEP) leader, Chilufya Tayali, following his posted video on social media bordering on bringing the name of the President in disrepute.
The IG reminded members of the public on the need to respect the Office of President as it is protected by law.
“All those wishing to offer checks and balances should do so within the confines of the law,” Mr. Kajoba said.
He said a comprehensive statement will be issued in due course once police have concluded the formalities on Mr. Tayali’s matter.
It should not only apply to ordinary citizens but also to law enforcers as well, they abrogate and step on citizen’s freedoms. They need also to be caged.
