The Zambia Statistics Agency (ZamStats) has distanced itself from unknown individuals circulating false statistics on some social platforms, purporting to be 2022 population figures for selected districts in Zambia.
According to the statement issued by (ZamStats), the 2022 Population and Housing data has not yet been released as the Agency is currently processing the 2022 Census data whose Summary Count will be released soon.
In accordance to Section 7(1) of the Statistics Act no. 13 of 2016, the Zambia Statistics Agency (ZamStats) is the sole entity responsible for the publication of official statistics and is further mandated by the same Act to conduct a national Census of Population and Housing, every ten (10) years.
The Agency has since advised the public to ignore the circulated figures as this is not from the Agency and therefore not official.
The statement further said that any information or data circulated prior to the official release is false and should be treated with the contempt it deserves.
