GOVERNMENT has commended local communities in Chitimbwa chiefdom for taking steps towards environmental protection by promoting community forestry.
Community members in Chitimbwa Chiefdom have created Forestry along a river as a measure to protect the river from drying up and support existence of the aquatic life.
Northern Province Deputy Permanent Secretary Lewis Mwape says it is gratifying to note the participation of local communities in Ecosystem Based Actions.
Mr. Mwape said the future of the economy lies in the human efforts not only for climate change adaptations, but ensuring that important steps are taken to protect the environment.
He said this when he inspected and appreciated community Ecosystem Based Actions in Chitimbwa Chiefdom in Mpulungu District yesterday.
“The future of our economy lies in our human effort not just for Climate Change Adaptation but in ensuring that important steps are taken to protect our environment. This is very important for us,” Mr. Mwape said
He assured the people of the provincial Administration support to the local people in promoting Environmental Sustainability.
“As Provincial Administration, we took time to appreciate big contribution of the local people and we wish to thank the local citizens for the good work and encourage them to continue with good work,” he said.
He also commanded His Royal Highness Chief Chitimbwa for working with the communities and establish four community forestry areas in the Chiefdom.
