AFRICAN COUNTRIES URGED TO EMULATE ZAMBIA’S PEACEFUL ELECTION TRANSITION

By Felix Mutambo

The Leadership Continental Research institute (LCRI) says African countries have a lot to learn from Zambia over its smooth successful electoral transitions since independence.

Commenting on the disputed outcome of Nigeria’s 2023 general elections LCRI Executive Director Mundia Hakoola says Zambia has had peaceful transitions that African countries can get inspirations from.

Mr. Hakoola adds that African countries should learn from the Electoral Commission Zambia (EZC) and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) that are open to foster good governance across Africa.

“African countries have Zambia as their role model. Let them learn from us and move a step closer to having a good governance around Africa,” Mr. Hakoola said.

He however noted that Zambia cannot impose itself on other African countries and that it is up to individual countries to facilitate their Electoral Boards to come and learn how best to conduct elections.
