THERE is need for more awareness on how empowerment funds under the Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission (CEEC) can be easily accessed by youths in the country, Operation Young Vote (OYV) Executive Director Guess Nyirenda has said.
Mr. Nyirenda has told The Scoop that as much as it is commendable that Government has increased the CEEC funds from K366 million to K377 million this year, there is need for more young people to be sensitized on such issues.
Mr Nyirenda feels that access to the funds among the youths is still limited due to lack of sensitisation on how to apply and when to apply.
“The technical language used to fill the form is standing as a barrier for youths to access these funds and that is the reason the funds stay idle for long time in CEEC accounts,” Mr. Nyirenda said.
He has further urged the youths that have benefited so far from any empowerment program to utilize the funds prudently if they are to contribute positively to national development.
