THE majority of Zambians this year are likely to experience hunger due to floods which have ravaged crops, leaving farmers in most parts of the country stranded, the Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU) has predicted.
Speaking to The Scoop yesterday, ZNFU Public Relations Manager Calvin Kaleyi says most parts of Lundazi, Southern, Central, and Lusaka Provinces that have experienced flash floods have had most of the crops and livestock destroyed with no chance of replanting at this stage.
He says as a nation, there is a need to find ways of preparing adequately for disasters by ensuring there is availability of relief food if the country is to avert the looming food crisis.
He is of the view that the extent of crop and livestock devastation is extremely bad hence the need to find ways of cushioning hunger which is most likely expected to affect a lot of communities in Zambia.
