THE Petroleum Transporters Associations of Zambia (PTAZ) says it is excited with the smooth traffic flow of tankers since President Hakainde Hichilema met his Congolese counterpart, President Felix Tshisekedi.
PTAZ Secretary General Benson Tembo says there is great improvement in the traffic flow at the Mokambo and Kasumbalesa borders posts among others.
“The reduction of trucks packing alongside roads enroute to DRC Congo is the direct effect of President Hichilema and President Tshisekedi talks since they met in Lesotho,” Mr. Tembo said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Tembo has implored Government to ensure that the interest of local petroleum transporters is protected from outside forces that want to take advantage of the flourishing business in Zambia saying local entrepreneurs are key to the growth of the economy.
He says the increase in citizen participation in the subsector in line with Government regulation is a great way to grow Zambian-owned companies.
“The achievement made so far on the part of the Government and the Petroleum Transporters Associations of Zambia should be harnessed. The Statutory Instrument of 2021 is the backbone under which this association is leaning on and the Government should strongly preserve it,” he said.
