CHANGING FUEL HAULAGE MODEL KEY TO LOWERING FUEL PRICES – CHIKWANDA

By Lumbiwe Mwanza

THERE is need for the Government to quickly finalise the initiative of changing the fuel transportation model from road to pipeline if the idea of lowering fuel prices is to be actualised, energy expert Johnstone Chikwanda has said.

In 2021, Zambia and Angola signed a US $5 billion deal to build an oil pipeline between the two Southern Africa nations. This project is expected to help Zambia start purchasing gas at a lower price.

In an exclusive interview with The Scoop, Dr Chikwanda says international factors contributing to the ever-increasing fuel prices will not be addressed anytime soon hence the need to ensure that other initiatives are implemented.

Dr. Chikwanda said bringing refined products through pipeline, as well as ensuring a Government-to- Government fuel procurement agreement and engaging the private sector, will help lower fuel prices in the country.
