FINALISE THE PUBLIC ORDER ACT NOW, FODEP URGES GOVT

By Lumbiwe Mwanza

THE delayed finalization of the Public Order Act (POA) by the Government has continued to limit the promotion of democracy and freedom of speech, Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) President Mwenda Mumbuna has said.

Mr. Mumbuna says there is also a need for Civil Society Organisation (CSOs) to continue pushing for the finalization of the Public Order Act even without donor funds.

He says the finalization of the Public Order Act will allow every Zambian, including those in the opposition to freely gather and mingle hence the need to continue advocating for its finalization.

Meanwhile, efforts to get a comment from Minister of Justice Mulambo Haimbe on the Public Order Act finalization process proved futile.

Last year, about 30 CSOs submitted their proposals on the Public Order Act.
