GOVERNMENT in collaboration with the private sector should strengthen modalities of increasing youths’ opportunities to turn rural areas from zones of poverty to zones of productivity, the Youth Development Foundation (YDF) has said.
Speaking to The Scoop in an interview, YDF Executive Director Chinoya Muyeye observes that youth participation in the attainment of socio economic development requires that more opportunities are well decentralized in both urban and rural areas.
“As CDF is being disbursed as a form of youth empowerment, more needs to be done in terms of ensuring that more rural investments and initiatives are implemented,” Mr. Chinoya said.
Mr. Chinoya says to date, young people in rural areas are failing to utilize the CDF because there has not been a robust awareness platform to engage young people in rural areas.
He adds that the objectives of the 8th National Development Plan which among others, targets at providing free education, scaling up social safety nets, and taking service delivery and resources closer to the people by increasing financing to constituencies, can be attained if more young people are knowledgeable on the various economic empowerment set ups especially in rural areas.
