SOCCER analyst Wakumbu Simukonda has expressed hope in the 27-member provisional squad assembled by Avram Grant ahead of back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations Qualification Group. H matches against Lesotho.
Grant has come under heavy criticism from soccer enthusiasts who have questioned the snail pace at which he is preparing for the upcoming tricky encounters.
But speaking to The Scoop Simukonda said the squad looks good because of the mixed blend of local players that have played for the national team and some young talents.
“The likes of Lazarus Kambole from ZESCO, Andrew Phiri from MUZA, Joseph Phiri from Red Arrows, from Green Eagles among other local players, gives Grant a competitive team,” Simukonda said.
He adds that the new players that are called to national duty should put in their best as this is an opportunity to prove themselves and that they should apply the international intellect and not as if they are playing local football.
He has expressed confidence that the Chipolopolo head coach has acquainted himself with the Zambian style of playing football and has urged professional players that will be called to adapt easily into Grant’s style of play.
