POLITICAL analyst Kaheko Lweendo has observed that the upcoming visit to Zambia by USA Vice-President Kamala Harris is going to be a catalyst to strengthening relations between Zambia and the Western world.
Mr. Lweendo notes that prior to the 2021 elections, Zambia’s diplomatic relations with some Western nations including the USA had taken a twist and it is just right that those relations are strengthened once again.
Speaking to The Scoop yesterday, Mr. Lweendo says there is nothing to worry about concerning the said visit which he has described as normal in diplomatic circles.
“We are part and parcel of the global community and we need to do business with the Americans in one way or the other,” Mr. Lweendo said.
The political analyst feels that the coming of Harris will boost the image of the country as the country’s credentials for democracy and respect for human rights were very low previously.
He anticipates that the development will also have a positive effect on Zambia’s debt restructuring efforts and other economic issues as investors and lending countries will have confidence in the country.
